Future Legends: Now Sounds of the Long Beach Bloodline, as the free, all-ages June 12 event is titled, is a sampling of that very combination.

Known for its electrified country twang, Rockabilly (called “Rab” for short by its aficionados) is both a music genre rooted in the 1950s and subculture making a come back at home and abroad. Melding together western swing, boogie woogie, rock and rhythm and blues, Rockabilly is changing the music world one riff and hairdo at a time. Rockabilly on Pine is set to give So Cal’s Rockabilly movers and shakers a run for their flat tops.

Long Beach Funk Fest

August 7, 2010 ::: 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. ::: Pine Avenue : MAP

Funk Fans listen up! The second annual Long Beach Funk Festival—a crescendo of the city’s summer-long, free concert series Summer And Music (SAM)—is scheduled to hit the streets of downtown Long Beach in full force on Saturday, August 7, 2010. At the intersection of Pine and Broadway Avenues—within walking distance of hundreds of local attractions, fine filling stations, cafes and pubs—the nation’s most respected funk performers will grove once again and stitch together the diverse fabric of Long Beach with music. Last year, 15,000 funky folks flocked the scene to witness funk legends like Mandrill, Dawn Silva and The Meters’ Experience, among many others. They came on bikes, by rail, bus, car and foot just to feel the funk. And, Long Beach Funk Festival founder Bobby Easton (of the funk band Delta Nove) says the line-up this year will be all it was in 2009 and then some. Stay tuned and check for updates: www.llbfunkfest.com.
